After graduating from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Barry worked with renowned architects in New York City and Europe. Perceiving a need for an architectural firm that could provide innovative design while working within the pragmatic realities of real estate development, he founded his firm in 1972. He has subsequently served as architect and planner for over 500 clients in the public and private sectors throughout the New York Metropolitan area.

Barry brings an intriguing mix of talent and experience to his role as founder and partner. His finely honed creative sensibility and architectural skills are balanced by decades of functional experience in both architecture and real estate.

Since founding his firm three decades ago, Barry has followed a progression of what he calls “natural unforced growth,” building a diverse client base of new and repeat business by rising to every challenge. His flexibility, enthusiasm for “solving the puzzle” of creating innovative and workable design solutions and his vast store of knowledge about, and experience with, the complexities of the commercial, industrial, retail and residential real estate sectors, are driving forces in Poskanzer Skott’s achievements and stellar reputation.

Barry is accomplished in multifamily residential housing and commercial (office, medical, retail and industrial building), new construction, restoration, retrofit and adaptive re-use, office interior design and facilities space planning, master site planning and site work. He was chair of the Construction Board of Appeals in Ridgewood, NJ for eight years, experience that has made him highly aware on building, ADA and life safety and code compliance issues. Barry served as chairman of the Allendale Beautification Program, has won numerous awards for his adaptive re-use designs and been a keynote speaker at conferences exploring adaptive re-use for medical and healthcare facilities. His diversified public service and intimate knowledge of the Northern New Jersey market greatly enhance the value of the firm’s services.
