Ridgewood Orthopedics Expands in Poskanzer Skott-Designed Space
Building-Wide Renovation Reflects Patient-First Focus of One of Region’s Top Practices

RIDGEWOOD, N.J., Oct. 13, 2016 – Ridgewood Orthopedic Group, LLC (ROG) has completed the renovation of its offices at 85 South Maple Ave. in Ridgewood. Designed by Poskanzer Skott Architects (PSA), the project was the final phase of the practice’s expansion to occupy the entire 11,700-square-foot property.

“Ridgewood Orthopedics has grown into the building in stages,” said Barry Poskanzer, AIA, partner in the Ridgewood-based design and planning firm. “We completed two smaller renovations that were aligned with their vision to create a modern, patient-friendly environment that would accommodate future growth. This is the final step in that process.”

ROG is a full service orthopedic medical practice specializing in technologically advanced medical care for conditions that involve sports medicine, back and neck ailments, arthritis and bone fractures. When ROG purchased the building four years ago, they leased part of the second floor to the prior owners with the understanding that it would be temporary.

“We planned to expand our team of physicians and add support staff,” said Practice Administrator Teresa Leidner. “As the practice grew, we needed more space in order to provide the high standard of patient service that is our core focus.”

Every aspect of the renovation reflects ROG’s patient-first philosophy. The second floor is anchored by a striking lobby and patient waiting area, which features glass walls and distinct check-in and check-out areas for enhanced efficiency and privacy. Additional exam rooms and specialty rooms for imaging and casting allow physicians to see more patients each day.

PSA’s design also incorporates workspaces for the 40-member clinical and administrative team, a private office suite for doctors and much-needed storage space. Leidner noted that the business office is now hidden from view and a new call center handles patient appointments, enabling reception staff to give the patients in front of them their full attention.

PSA worked in partnership with JRB Construction to carefully choreograph the phases of the project in order to allow uninterrupted patient care during construction.

“Healthcare projects frequently involve the challenge of shifting work from one occupied area to another,” Poskanzer noted. “In this case, the vacant portion of the second floor was renovated before work began in the existing office. Ridgewood Orthopedics was then able to serve patients in the expansion while the existing space was updated.”

Leidner says the praise has been unanimous from both patients and staff. “We were in a cramped, ‘70s-style space that wasn’t efficient for conducting business. Poskanzer Skott exceeded all expectations in designing a colorful, modern and spacious office that we can be proud of.”

PSA has deep roots in the northern New Jersey healthcare community, having designed projects for Hackensack University Medical Center, Valley Health System, Bergen Regional Medical Center and many private medical practices.
